  1. Boon works with my son Eric at the local outdoor shopping mall.

Eric is a novice handler and he does an excellent job! We all work continually to improve so the things could work to improve as a handler are:

LEASH HANDLING: Eric holds the leash too high causing it to be tight unnecessarily. For a young dog the handler has to take some of the responsibility for the loose leash when the dog is close by enough to meet criteria. Holding the leash tight can habituate the dog to a tight leash even when they are close to you.

ATTENTION: Eric could pay more attention to Boon and speak or pat his leg for Boon before he walks off to make sure she is paying attention. Again for a young or novice dog with the attention span of a knat, to be fair, we should "set them up for success.

TREAT DELIVERY: Eric could improve his treat delivery skills by following the mantra, "click THEN treat" while keeping his hands quiet outside of his pockets preferably near the seam of his jeans.
